Recently, Huangpi Substation purchased a complete set of high voltage power test equipment from Shanghai Demiks Power Technology Co., Ltd. (DEMIKS). Professional engineers carried out on-site commissioning tests for KYN28A-12 medium voltage switchgears, prefabricated box transformers and vacuum circuit breakers to guarantee safe operation of the new substation.
Test Equipment Introduced
Two core DEMIKS instruments are deployed on site:
- AC Hipot Test Set / Power Frequency Withstand Voltage Tester Equipped with oil-immersed test transformer and control console. It outputs power frequency AC high voltage to conduct AC withstand voltage test for 10kV switchgears and circuit breakers. The test simulates power system over-voltage conditions to detect insulation defects, internal gaps and assembly faults.
- DC High Voltage Generator Portable multiplier cylinder with control unit. It generates stable DC high voltage for DC withstand test and leakage current measurement of power cables and capacitive components, identifying damp insulation and insulation degradation.
Engineers completed wiring, step-up voltage and voltage-holding tests for bus bars, vacuum interrupters and insulating bushings both in indoor power distribution building and outdoor prefabricated power cabin. All test data were fully recorded for acceptance filing.

Purpose & Necessity of High Voltage Withstand Test
- Detect hidden insulation defects During manufacturing, transportation and installation, high voltage equipment may suffer invisible insulation damage, dust pollution and assembly errors. Visual inspection cannot find these risks. The withstand voltage test applies boosted voltage to expose weak insulation positions effectively.
- Prevent breakdown faults after grid connection Defective switchgears put into operation are prone to internal short-circuit, explosion and fire under switching surge or lightning over-voltage, leading to large-scale power outages and safety hazards. Hipot test acts as critical safety check before energization.
- Comply with national & international acceptance standards According to GB 50150 and IEC standards, power frequency withstand voltage test is mandatory acceptance item for newly-built substation switch-gears before energization. Power grid authorities require full completion of these tests for project approval.
- Clarify liability for equipment failures Commissioning tests before energization distinguish manufacturing defects and on-site installation problems, reducing disputes during later operation & maintenance.
